More ORLY than ORLY

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

Today just flew by really fast, as soon as I got here. I did more reading then drawing (and, if you’ve seen the twitter/twitpic feed on the AP hub, just looking out the window because it’s a really nice view from up here), but that’s okay. I’ma see if I can just do this every Tuesday.

One minor point of annoyance, though… I get that libraries and such would use filters. But why, WHY is Ayarane Project blocked and considered a Malicious Site? ;_; Even weirder is that this only affects the hub: the Ramen subdomain still works. WTF. This just means that I’ll have to, er, wait until I get home to reverse-tag any entries I make, blah. I wonder if there’s a way to petition Websense to get me unblocked, it’s just silly to tell my spaceship to GTFO. :( I have pictures of KITTIES, for smoo’s sake.

Anyway, time to pack up Dinah… once I get home, need to crack open Blastoise and put in his Blu-ray drive. About freaking time. :P

(WIP) Avatars come in 3’s

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

Blastoise will be down tomorrow due to power outage (and also because as soon as I get home, I’m installing that Blu-Ray drive I’ve had since, uh, Yoshi Day). While he is inherently the superior machine for Instant Ramen, Dinah is capable of stepping up to the plate if needed.

That said, Dinah is much better suited for finer detail stuff such as inking and coloring… if only because of screen size. So, in the interest of letting her do what she does best, I decided to just do the wireframes for all 3 Avatars (Blastoise, Dinah and Yggdrasil) at once.

Blastoise, the turtle Pokemon spearman
You know, I liked his previous design, so I kept most of it in this revision. He does, however, get new headgear and a weapon change– now he’s got a spear, no thanks to all that time spent in Phantasy Star Universe. >_>;;; Not quite evident in the wireframe, but Blastoise now has a Jade Curtiss-esque upper cape and eartails.

Dinah, the ninja
Dinah, on the flipside, pretty much got redone entirely. Her original incarnation was more or less a speed-painted adaptation of her City of Heroes incarnation. This time, she actually looks like a ninja! Additionally, just because, Dinah also gets the same buttcape as Blastoise, and similar footgear (except Dinah’s go above the knee rather than just underneath).
Like Blastoise, Dinah also gets a weapon tweak: a swallow/doublesaber. I was going to trade in her old katana for twin blades, but this looks better.

Yggdrasil (“Iggy”), the seer
This old man does not yet exist, but upon the release of Windows 7 he will be cobbled together from 2/3 spare parts (Synergy’s old mobo+CPU+RAM, Blastoise’s old DVD writer and GeForce 7600GT) and become my media center box to get slapped onto my HDTV.
He’s based on a combination of Phil and ToD2!Garr. To a smaller degree, FuSoYa, if only because long hair and beard are LOOOOOOOOONG. Why do I have this fixation on badass old guys? Completely platonic, mind you (if you must ask THAT question, it would be Blastoise hands-down), but WTF all the same.

I could draw Avatar forms of the remaining machines on the network (Onyx, Jin, Tsunami and Tiger) but… eh. Those aren’t even mine, and even if I made wallpapers out of ’em, they wouldn’t be much appreciated and replaced with LOL BULLDOGS within an hour. -_-; So, just Blastoise, Dinah and old man Iggy, here.

(Instant Ramen Sketchbook) The shirt that should have been

You heard him.

And it took me this long to finally draw this… why? XD
I have the JINT photoshop file if I actually do something with it.

(Instant Ramen Sketchbook) Sleepover: Clean Yet Ob-Steamed

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

Hi, fan service. To be on the safe side, despite everyone involved being featureless, assume this is NSFW on account of boobies. (Also I cannot draw bath sponges worth anything, even though I had one next to me.)
Hikaru’s seem a bit… I don’t know, I can’t put my finger on it, beyond that they might look the way they do because of being crammed into that Maximillian plate armor for long periods of time, I suppose. *shrug* Gotta let ’em out to breathe sometime…

That said… as expected, the water ended up being the better part of the paint job here. Water is not easy to paint, you can’t simply just flood blue, squiggle in some white wavy lines and have it look anything near convincing. At the same time, water is not entirely transparent either, as even bath water has some degree of opacity. This is a much simplified rendering– if I wanted to push it further, you’d see some hints of fleshtones from underneath, but here, just a murky shadow contour will do.

There IS steam here, but it’s quite faint. I debated adding more, but it might have been too much. Hm. This is still early into the bath scene, so steam could add up as it goes on.

While I figure out what part of the Sleepover narrative to draw next, I’ll be drawing updated Avatar forms for Blastoise and Dinah, as well as the future Avatar Yggdrasil (“Iggy”), the Media Center box that will be built upon the release of Windows 7. Blastoise is getting a weapon change from 2h sword to a spear, Dinah’s getting twin blades, and because Iggy is a newcomer… well, I’ll just say that I’ll likely base him on FuSoYa with a bit of Phil, so he’ll most likely get a staff of some sort.

WTF, Fontana. 102F?!
It’s a good thing mother’s all “screw the electric bill, run the AC!” or else we’d be melting. Though I imagine she’s doing this more for LOL BULLDOGS. :P

also… FELLOW NAUGHTY LIBERALS! Rejoice for tomorrow, MSNBC finally gets an HD feed!
If Time Warner is still as omgfast about patching in new channels, I’ll probably have it same day. (No, really… last time new HD channels were released, we pretty much got ’em same day as they were advertised for release.)

Future Resurrection of a Bookworm

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

You know, the more I think about it, the more I can’t wait until Tuesday’s power outage, if only because I get to raid the library all day. I mean, I’m already searching the book database for the weird stuff I can remember coming across while working in rear Circulations to make sure they’re in stock. (I won’t bother putting holds in, they’re so obscure that most of ’em I’ve only encountered once.)

This is, of course, on top of the fact that I’ll have Dinah and access to free wireless, and I’ll have my tablet on me… >_>;

Problem is, the library doesn’t open until 10… d’oh! Well, uh… I wonder if I could prod mother into leaving a little bit earlier– I’ll buy us breakfast at the nearby IHOP or something! I don’t want to be in a powerless-house any more than I have to… at the very least, the “silence” of snoring bulldogs is enough to drive someone insane. x.x I’ll probably sap the battery on my Zen before that happens (since I can recharge it through Dinah later).

Yoshi = TOTALLY overthinking the whole thing. (And how!)
