Countdown to Yoshi Day Episode 26, T-8d

by Yoshi on Mar.24, 2010 | ITP:

Silly internet dood, “April Fools Day?” What is this day you speak of? Something about pranks and lulz? That does not exist on this part of the internets. >_>;

No, we call it “Yoshi Day,” in celebration of things that are nerdy and awesome. (And me.)
I promise I’m not trolling for loot. (that reminds me, I need to go put in my next ThinkGeek order…) I just needed an excuse to boo April Fools because it is so much fail and Yoshi Day rolls off the tongue better.

Besides, other things happened on 4/1 in history, too. Taking a sample of things that happened in recent history…
- 4/1/1954: The US Air Force Academy is authorized for creation in Colorado
- 4/1/1976: Apple Computer is established
- 4/1/1981: Russia adopts Daylight Savings
- 4/1/1997: The Hale-Bopp Comet!
- 4/1/2001: The Netherlands becomes the first country in the world to legalize gay marriage
- 4/1/2004: Google launches Gmail, people call it suspect BECAUSE it launched on April Fools

And I’m not the only one blessed cursed with an April Fools birthday either! These other doods you might have heard of are also 4/1 babies:
- 4/1/1953: Barry Sonnenfeld (director: Men in Black)
- 4/1/1961: Susan Boyle (Britain’s Got Talent)
- 4/1/1971: Method Man
- 4/1/1976: Rachel Maddow (:D :D :D)
- 4/1/1977: Jon Gosselin (minus Kate… or 8…)

Finally, did you also know that 4/1 is also Edible Books Day?

Locally, some details are starting to get out…
It involves chocolate cake and iTunes (because I am an iTard– not for music because what I like tends to not exist on iTunes, but for apps).
But I think bro may have called dibs on any major stuff on 4/1, so if [info]brendala wishes to play the “I can has a Yoshi?” card on that specific day, she and Robert are going to have to flip a coin over it. :P (A lightsaber duel is fine too!)

What a long trip it’s been.

by Yoshi on Apr.02, 2009 | ITP: , , , ,

*needs to make a happier “I see what you did there” icon*

Originally it was going to be “go to IHOP with mother, then get ninja’d by siblings for Best Buy raiding and slacking for rest of day” but mother slept in. What actually happened was “go to IHOP with sister, go back to other house and ninja Robert, and… wait, I know this route, this is how one gets to Fry’s! o_o;;;;”

Robert had never been to Fry’s before and only knew about it second-hand as being “Best Buy on steroids,” so when he actually went in he was all “:O” The car ride both ways was actually the best part about the whole thing, since there was much silly even though much of it sailed over my head because I don’t watch a whole lot of “normal” prime-time TV. :P

So, uh, now I have a LG-series Blu-Ray drive and a 1TB drive. Must obtain case, PSU and OS and then I’m good…

Chocolate chip pancakes = ohgod so freaking tasty just as they were 12 years ago.
And yes this post took 6 hours to write since I kept falling asleep. :P

Halp I’m being ninja’d

by Yoshi on Apr.01, 2009 | ITP: , ,

Details are being leaked a bit at a time.

IHOP for breakfast (because goddamn I want chocolate chip pancakes)
tech loot (Blu-Ray drive and terabyte drive)

and, uh, apparently I am being snatched by my sister after she gets off work for a little joyride? O_O

If mother’s not up by around 11, perhaps I should wake her…

The Yoshi Cobbler

by Yoshi on Mar.31, 2009 | ITP: , , ,

As a byproduct of Yoshi Day, I’ll have ALMOST enough parts to cobble together another desktop. Yeah, this has happened before (I did, after all, assemble Reuben out of leftover parts), but the difference this time is that this machine will be miiiiine. >:D

Seriously, though… I’ve built all these machines, and this will only be the second one that’s for my own use. I’m not like mother and want a bazillion of them, but, you know, it’d be neat to slap one on my HDTV. Torrents and Painter on a big display? Yes please. I’m reusing my old GeForce 7600GT from Blastoise’s initial Erdekaiser build, so games will also be playable if I so wish it… though in those cases Blastoise is probably miles better. (Put another way, useful for those rare instances in which Robert actually comes over here and wants to play WoW; he can run on Blastoise and I’d run from this yet-to-be-named box.)

All I gotta do is front a case, a PSU (I have my old 430w but I’d rather get a modular variant) and an OS and I’m good to go. :D Since this is basically a Media Center-grade machine, may as well slap Vista Ultimate on it, too.

Apparently Wednesday = not only delicious chocolate caek, but chocolate silk pie, too.

the countdown begins

by Yoshi on Mar.25, 2009 | ITP: ,

T minus 7 days to Yoshi Day.

Screw April Fools. Bring on delicious chocolate buttercream cake!
Seriously, I’ve got a bad craving for that right now. Not even chocolate donuts will work.

Uhm…. I don’t know if I should just go nuts on Amazon and/or Best Buy (yay $20 rewards zone certificate!) and time it so the box full of loot gets here on Yoshi Day, or buy all that stuff on the actual day or wait until MONTCLAIR RAID or something. (I know I’m holding my Gamestop card for the latter.)

I need to do laundry today. >_>;
Depending on how much I can get done (contingent on how long mother lets the Pups of the Apocalypse wander, because their play area obstructs passage to the laundry room, gah), I’ll either go deposit this rebate check tonight, else it gets deposited tomorrow after library service. Need to poke mother for her share of this month’s pet insurance premium too.

The Magic Coin Block!

Like the sass and awesome and artwork and other happy things you see on Ayarane Project? Consider tossing a few coins into Yoshi's Magic Coin Block and contribute to the cool. Even better: if you put in 20 coins, you get credit towards a Gourmet Ramen piece! This is cumulative-- you can donate smaller amounts in different instances but have it add up-- and scales to the same parameters as Gourmet Ramen commissions.

Of course, if you want to just buy a Gourmet Ramen commission outright, that's fine too! :)
