In the Extended continuity, Nirvana is Phil‘s weapon. A gold-accented healer’s staff, Phil crafted it alongside his wife’s Lilith Rod ahead of their wedding day, drawing upon his goldsmithing training that all members of his noble house are instructed in. Featuring an Ailleraine Saintstone in the staff’s head, Nirvana can synchronize with its user and thus matches its strength to theirs, eliminating the need to upgrade or replace. The saintstone additionally serves as the equivalent of a White Mage soul crystal.
Nirvana is the only “scalable” weapon that is frequently shared between two people. While it is normally associated with Phil, when he is either not in the party or using another job, he loans the staff to Yoshi. Because Nirvana simulates a generic aether profile in Yoshi’s hands, it is less potent while she uses it compared to Phil, but still considerably stronger than if she were using any other weapon. When confronting Lakshmi in Stormblood, Yoshi’s healer staff breaks mid-battle, and thus she and Phil have to pass Nirvana back and forth for the remainder of the encounter. Though both of them are capable of using basic healing spells without aid of a focus, Nirvana amplifies the effects and reduces the aetheric expenditure involved.
In Endwalker, Nirvana evolved slightly during the Aitiascope, having come into contact with the memories of Phil’s late wife Eleanor. In being touched by Eleanor, the staff became Nirvana Unforgotten, boosting the effects of single-target healing spells. When used by Yoshi, the upgrade inverts, boosting the effects of single-target damaging spells.
